Threads closes in on X for daily app users
New data reveals Threads is quickly catching up to X (formerly Twitter) in daily app users. Here’s why artists and music marketers should start paying attention.
Threads is growing fast
Threads, Meta’s discussion-based platform, has been growing quickly since its launch in 2023. New data from Similarweb shows it is now closing in on X when it comes to daily active users.
So what are the figures? Threads saw 151.1 million daily mobile users in June 2025, up 127.8% from this time last year. In comparison, X saw 132 million daily mobile users, a 15.2% drop year-on-year.

On the web side of things, it’s a different story. X still leads with 145.8 million average daily web users, compared to Threads with just 6.9 million. However, TechCrunch explains this is not a huge surprise. Threads was always built as a mobile-first platform, launching its app before any web version was available.
So, while X dominates web traffic, the gap in mobile use is shrinking fast.
Interestingly, emerging competitor Bluesky grew 372.5% year-over-year but its daily active users remains small in comparison with just 4.1 million daily app users and 5.3 million web users.
Why Threads is booming
Similar to when we reported on Threads back in February, the platform’s growth is down to many factors. Since Elon Musk acquired X, many users have been exploring alternatives and Threads is a go-to. It’s been improving the experience too, with features like music integration and better transparency tools.
…and it seems to be paying off. Threads now boasts 350 million monthly active users, up from 320 million in February.
How is this relevant to the music industry?
Threads is no longer just Meta’s alternative to X. It’s rapidly becoming a serious place for real-time conversation, community building, and content sharing.
For artists, this presents a fresh opportunity to connect with fans, promote new releases, and grow your audience outside of the usual platforms.
Not to mention, Threads recently started testing video ads. That could mean new paid options for promoting your music in the near future.
Final thoughts
Threads is growing fast. As it pulls closer to X in daily users, especially on mobile, it’s potential can no longer be ignored.
Whether you’re an artist or music marketer, using Threads could help you build a presence on an ever-growing platform and put you on the pathway to a growing fanbase.
