The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ has been constantly breaking records since its release in late November 2019. This Monday it broke yet another record and possibly the most momentous one of all: It has become the first song to spend a full year in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The track also holds the record for the longest a song has spent in the Top 5. with 43 total weeks.
The previous record-holder, Post Malone‘s ‘Circles’ sat in the Top 10 for 39 weeks.
‘Blinding Lights’ is also about to smash another record for weeks spent in the Hot 100, a record currently held by Imagine Dragons’ ‘Radioactive’, which held for 87 weeks. Currently ‘Blinding Lights’ has been in the Hot 100 for 65 weeks.
Although the single and The Weeknd was snubbed at the Grammy’s the song and the artist have continued to grow in popularity. It certainly begs the question, are award ceremonies still relevant?
