With just under 3 months of the year left to go, let’s look at the most streamed albums of 2023.
2023 has been an incredible year for music. Whilst the year isn’t over yet, let’s take a look back at the big hitters by seeing the most streamed albums of the year so far.
Deezer have revealed the most streamed albums of the year on their streaming service in honour of last Saturday’s National Album Day. They also looked at the albums with the hottest gains on their first day after release.
After a year packed full of great albums, it will take a pretty special collection to top the list. So who else but Beyoncé would be number one, with her seventh studio album ‘RENAISSANCE’ currently the most streamed album of 2023.
The fastest rising albums saw Travis Scott top the list with the hotly anticipated album ‘UTOPIA’ – side note, contemporary artists have to capitalise their albums apparently. Scott’s album saw his first full studio release since ASTROWORLD 5 years ago.
In second place, Taylor Swift earned the second most streams in a single day with the release of ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’. The album is a re-recording of her classic 2010 album, which is owned by Scooter Braun. To take back ownership of her music, Swift has released these new versions of her older albums.
Who else could come a breath away from the number one spot for the most first-day streamed album with a 13 year old record. Only Taylor Swift.
Here’s the top ten list for the most streamed albums in a single day after release in 2023:
- Travis Scott – Utopia
- Taylor Swift – Speak Now (Taylor’s version)
- Depeche Mode – Memento Mori
- Ed Sheeran – –
- Metallica – 72 seasons
- U2 – Songs of surrender
- Lana Del Rey – Did you know that there is a t
- Olivia Rodrigo – GUTS
- Miley Cyrus – Endless Summer Vacation
- Måneskin – RUSH!
Is the album declining as a format in this day and age though? Deezer’s data revealed that the users who listen to albums the most are over 50. They found that nearly 45% of those aged 50 and above starting on an album page to listen to music.
This represents a shift in how younger people are listening to music. Regardless, Beyoncé’s year-leading album for streams was streamed the most by 18-35 year olds. Likewise, more than half of the streams for Travis Scott’s UTOPIA were between the ages of 18 and 25. It seems that even if albums aren’t listened to by young people as often, they still get hyped for a new album release by an artist they love.
Deezer also found that album-lovers can be separated by genre, with certain genres’ fans having much more album listens than others. The top 5 genres for album listeners are:
- New Age
- Metal
- Folk
- Jazz
- Alternative
With only 2-and-a-half months left of 2023, there’s not long for any big new releases to step onto the leaderboard. Are there any releases you’re anticipating before the year’s up? Let us know in the comments down below.
