Spotify expands parental controls with managed accounts for kids
Parents in more regions can now block explicit content, restrict specific artists and songs, and hide videos with Spotify’s managed accounts feature.
Spotify is making it easier for parents to shape how their kids experience music. The company has expanded managed accounts, a Premium Family plan feature that lets parents create supervised Spotify profiles for children under 13 (or the local market equivalent).
After successful pilots in 10 markets (New Zealand, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia), Spotify is now rolling the feature out more widely to the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands.
What are managed accounts?
Managed accounts give young listeners their own space to enjoy music, complete with personal playlists, likes, and recommendations. Meanwhile, parents still stay in control.

For Spotify, it’s another step toward building tailored listening experiences for every age group.
What parents can control
Under managed accounts, parents of Family Plan managers can:
- Control access to explicit content
- Limit playback of certain artists and songs
- Hide video and Canvas visuals for songs
Spotify also limits interactive features, such as Messages, to help ensure a safer environment for kids.

How to set up a managed account
Setting up a managed account is easy. Family Plan managers only need to follow a few steps:
- Go to your Spotify account page in the Spotify app
- Select “Add a Member”
- Choose “Add a listener aged under 13 (or local market equivalent)”
- Follow the prompts to complete setup
Once created, parents can update or adjust their child’s managed account settings at any time.
Why it matters
For parents, managed accounts bring peace of mind. Kids can enjoy their own music world, and parents can relax knowing it’s safe. A big plus? No more worrying about your recommendations or Spotify Wrapped being taken over by whatever your child is listening to.
For Spotify, the update reinforces its goal of catering to audiences of all kinds. With managed accounts, Spotify’s family audience can benefit.
At its core, managed accounts give families control and flexibility. Parents decide what’s appropriate, kids get a sense of independence, and everyone gets to discover and enjoy music their way.
