Nearly 40% of Spotify’s global Premium users are now in Europe, as the streaming giant hits a landmark milestone.

Spotify hits monumental milestone in Europe

Spotify has officially reached 100 million paid subscribers in Europe. The news was announced by CEO and Co-Founder Daniel Ek during Spotify’s annual media day at its Stockholm headquarters, where the company hosts guests from across the continent.

Ek confirmed the milestone in a LinkedIn post, calling the growth “incredible” for the company. He also revealed that Europe now accounts for nearly 40% of Spotify’s global Premium subscriber base- a huge figure that is a testament to Europe’s importance to the platform.

Building from strong Q1 growth

Spotify’s European milestone follows a strong start to the year. In Q1 2025, the platform reported 268 million global paid subscribers- a 12% year-on-year increase and a 5 million jump from Q4 2024. This growth outperformed expectations, as it predicted growth of just 3 million new subscribers.

Going forward, Spotify projects this growth momentum to continue– aiming to reach 273 million paid subscribers globally by the end of Q2 2025.

Looking ahead

Now accounting for 40% of Spotify’s global Premium subscriber base, Spotify’s European market is up from 37% at the end of Q1 2025. Unless Ek just rounded up for a nicer number for the media, this shows the continued growth and dominance within Europe.

Amid streaming growth slowing in major markets, this growth in Europe can only spell positive news for the industry as a whole. On a whole, Spotify’s continued growth is a strong signal of streaming’s endurance.

For those in the industry, this means a larger potential listener base and, ideally, increased royalty revenue. Considering Spotify has limited royalties for tracks under 1000 streams, this seems unlikely. Still, more listeners of your music can expand your reach, allow you to gain new fans, and unlock other opportunities such as global tours or merch sales.
