Spotify expands audiobook access with flexible add-ons for Premium users
Audiobooks+ and new plan member options give Spotify Premium subscribers more flexible ways to listen to audiobooks.
Spotify is continuing its push into the audiobook and publishing industry. The streaming giant is launching two new audiobook-focused subscription options, offering greater flexibility and listening time for Premium subscribers.
The two new options, ‘Audiobooks+’ and ‘Audiobooks+ for Plan Members’, are now rolling out as purchasable add-ons to Spotify Premium subscribers in many major markets.
So, what are the new plans?
Spotify’s standard Premium plans already offer 15 free hours of audiobook listening each month. Now, it is fulfilling its promise made back in 2023 of finding new ways “to unlock access to Premium audiobooks” for Family and Duo users, with new Audiobooks+ options:
Audiobooks+
- Adds an extra 15 hours of audiobook listening each month.
- Available to Spotify Premium Individual users and Family/Duo plan managers.
Audiobooks+ for Plan Members
- Plan members on Premium Family or Duo accounts can now request access to audiobooks for the very first time.
- Plan managers can choose to:
- Add a recurring 15-hour monthly audiobook allowance.
- Buy a one-time 10-hour top-up if more time is needed before the month ends.
How to subscribe
Adding Audiobooks+ is simple. Premium users can go to the Add-ons tab under Subscription > Plans and add-ons, follow the steps, and update their plan.
For plan members, it’s slightly different:
- Members can request the add-on under Your Premium > Manage > Browse add-ons.
- Plan Manager then approve or add the add-on under Subscription > Available Subscriptions > Add-ons > Select the member(s) > Continue.
Need a top-up of listening hours during the month? Plan managers can also top up audiobook hours Subscription > select your Plan member(s) > Manage audiobook listening. Plan members can request top-ups under Your Premium > Audiobook listening time > Request hours.

Spotify’s audiobook push
These new features mark another step in Spotify’s plan to become a serious player in the audiobook space. Earlier this year, Spotify revealed that more than 25% of its Premium subscribers are now listening to audiobooks, and listening hours are up 35% year-over-year. With its latest expansion, Spotify is continuing its strive to become the go-to destination for all things audio.
After successful trials in Ireland and Canada, the more flexible offerings are now rolling out to Spotify Premium users in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein.
