Smashing Pumpkins Announce New Bass Player
Bill Corgan has been out searching for a new bass player for the Smashing Pumpkins. And, according to Consequence of Sound, he’s found one.
Nicole Fiorentino, who has previously played with Veruca Salt, Spinnerette, Twilight Sleep, Radio Vago and Light FM, has been announced as Smashing Pumpkins’ new bassist, replacing Ginger Pooley, who replaced Melissa Auf der Maur, who replaced D’Arcy. Nope, no pattern here. None at all.
According to Fiorentino’s Myspace page:
“[Nicole] is keeping herself very busy these days in the studio with Billy and the rest of the Pumpkins crew… She will also be performing live with band for any future tours/gigs.”
It turns out that Nicole becoming SP bassplayer hasn’t come without some static among the YouTube bass auditioners that submitted vids and applications, and the grievance is directed at Corgan.
It turns out that Corgan had announced that the bass auditions were going to be open to everyone and that the deadline was March 31,2010 with vid required. But Word leaked out to the other bassists that Nicole had been picked as the full official SP bassist before March 31 ever arrived and that she has a prior history with Corgan. The other bassists are in an uproar over the alleged PR scam and posts have been posted on the YouTube bass auditions vids.
The craziest thing is that Corgan fans (fanatics) were attacking and messing with any of the grieved bass auditioners that tried to post anything on the Hipsters United blog about the scam. The bassists want the facts to come out how badly Corgan has treated them and Corgan goons were enforce to try and muddy the issue by posting huge rambling staements in an attempt to hide what they had to say.
