Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless brings spatial audio, smarter ANC, and a user-replaceable battery
Sennheiser’s latest flagship wireless headphones aim to combine premium sound, future-proof features, and sustainability in one listener-friendly package.
Sennheiser has officially unveiled the Momentum 5 Wireless, the latest generation of its popular wireless headphone range. Arriving almost four years after the Momentum 4, the new model builds on a formula that already earned plenty of praise among music fans, adding upgraded noise cancellation, Dolby Atmos support, expanded Bluetooth capabilities, and an unusual feature for a modern wireless headset: a user-replaceable battery.
For musicians, creators, and audiophiles who spend hours listening, editing, travelling, and working across multiple devices, the Momentum 5 appears designed to offer more than just another pair of premium consumer headphones.
Building on a successful formula
Rather than completely reinventing the Momentum series, Sennheiser has focused on refining what already worked.
The Momentum 5 retains the same 42mm transducer design found in its predecessor, a driver inspired by those found within the company’s renowned HD 600-series headphones. As a result, Sennheiser promises a sound signature that continues to prioritise detail, clarity, and dynamic low-end performance.

Meanwhile, support for newer wireless technology and higher-resolution playback options, complete with the free Smart Control Plus companion app, makes it easy for users to customise the playback to suit their preference.
Hi-res audio, Dolby Atmos, and spatial audio
One of the biggest upgrades comes in the form of expanded wireless audio support.
The Momentum 5 is Hi-Res Audio certified and supports Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound platform, including aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive, and aptX HD codecs. Alongside standard AAC and SBC support, this gives compatible devices access to significantly higher-quality wireless audio transmission.
Sennheiser is also bringing Dolby Atmos support to the Momentum 5, alongside a head-tracking functionality that will be delivered through a firmware update. In practical terms, that will mean users will be able to enjoy a more spatial and immersive listening experience without always needing a wired connection.
Stronger noise cancellation for listeners on the move
Active noise cancellation has become a must-have feature for many who listeners while travelling, commuting, or moving between studios.
With the Momentum 5, Sennheiser has doubled the number of microphones used for noise cancellation and transparency functions, bringing the total to eight microphones across the headset.

The result? Sennheiser claims the new system can reduce certain types of distracting voices up to three times more effectively than the previous generation. Meanwhile, the additional microphones also help enable more natural voice quality on calls.
For anyone listening or taking calls in noisy environments, that could be one of the most practical upgrades on offer.
A product (and battery) designed to last

Battery life was already one of the Momentum 4’s strongest selling points, and that continues with the new model. Sennheiser rates the Momentum 5 at up to 57 hours of playback with active noise cancellation enabled. That’s a figure that comfortably exceeds many competing flagship wireless headphones, including Sony’s WH-1000XM6 which last for up to 30 hours of playback with noise cancelling enabled. Plus, users can get seven hours of playback after a 10-minute charge, with a full recharge taking two hours.
Beyond that, the Momentum 5 also introduces a user-replaceable 700mAh battery, allowing owners to swap out the power cell themselves using a simple screwdriver. It’s part of Sennheiser’s wider sustainability effort that also includes smaller packaging, reduced plastic use, and a more compact carrying case.
For headphone users who invest heavily in their gear, the ability to replace a battery rather than replace an entire headset is reassurance that the product is built to last for years to come.
Built for modern workflows
Beyond sound quality, the Momentum 5 appears well suited to the increasingly device-heavy workflows many users rely on. Auracast support allows users to broadcast to multiple devices simultaneously, making it easier to switch between a laptop, phone, tablet, or workstation without constantly reconnecting.
Meanwhile, a new Game Mode reduces wireless latency, which could prove useful not only for gaming but also for video editing, content creation, and other applications where audio synchronisation matters.
The included USB-C and 3.5mm wired connection options provide additional flexibility, particularly for users working with high-resolution audio files or professional equipment.
Personalised listening with Smart Control Plus
Sennheiser’s Smart Control Plus app remains central to the Momentum experience. Users gain access to an eight-band EQ, custom presets, adaptive listening settings, and sound personalisation tools designed to tailor playback to individual preferences.
For musicians and producers, this level of control can be useful when switching between different listening scenarios. A creator might prefer a flatter response while checking a mix, then switch to a more bass-forward profile for casual listening, all without needing separate headphones.
Pricing and availability
The Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless is available in Black, White, and Denim finishes. The headphones carry a suggested retail price of $399.99 and begin rolling out through Sennheiser and selected retailers from June 2026.
