What is Record Store Day?

Record Store Day 2025 is set for April 12, marking its 18th year since launching in 2008. Aiming to support independent record stores, the event has grown into a global phenomenon with over 270 stores participating in the UK and thousands more worldwide. The event not only offers exclusive and limited-edition vinyl releases but also shots in-store performances, special events, and celebrations of record culture.

What’s being released for Record Store Day 2025?

With hundreds of titles unveiled at once, navigating the full list of releases can be overwhelming. Each year, collectors and music fans line up early to secure their special vinyls. Releases vary by country, so availability may differ between the UK and US. 

Some of the standout release this year include:

  • Taylor Swift – 7” vinyl of her single Fortnight with Post Malone.
  • Gracie Abrams – The Secret of Us live performance at Radio City Music Hall.
  • Charli XCX – Two releases consisting of Guess featuring Billie Eilish and her Number 1 Angel mixtape.
  • Beabadoobee – Live and Acoustic in London.
  • Fred Again.. – Three live albums featuring piano versions from his three-part Actual Life LP series.
  • Oasis, Anderson .Paak, Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, Megan Thee Stallion, Confidence Man, U2, Queen, David Bowie, Elton John, Sting, Prince, John Lennon, and more.

Soundtrack highlights

  • Harry Potter – Five different movie soundtrack albums on a double-LP clear vinyl.
  • Wicked – Special edition soundtrack and score releases.

The importance of Record Store Day

Record Store Day was created to highlight the cultural significance of independent record stores, and has played a major role in reviving vinyl’s popularity. In 2024, UK physical album sales increased year-over-year for the first time since 1994- reinforcing the format’s continued resurgence. Stateside, vinyl sales now generate over $1 billion annually.

Vinyl sales in the US are up in 2024, actually

Each year, RSD appoints official ambassadors to promote the event. For 2025:

  • Post Malone serves as the US ambassador, releasing his Tribute to Nirvana taken from a 2020 live stream- donating all proceeds to MusiCares’ Addiction Recovery/Mental Health division.
  • Sam Fender represents Record Store Day UK, releasing an exclusive six-track EP titled Me and the Dog, featuring two new songs and previously unreleased live recordings.
