PPL has revealed the most played tracks and artists in the UK for 2024 based on public broadcasts.

PPL’s Most Played charts offer an insight into which artists and tracks are resonating with audiences and dominating the airwaves. The UK-based collection management organisation (CMO) has recently revealed the results for the most popular tracks and artists of 2024.

The charts reveal the UK’s top tracks and artists of the year based on data collected “recorded music broadcast on radio, TV or played in public spaces such as shops, bars, restaurants, gyms and offices.” These charts serve as a perfect reminder that digital music streaming doesn’t paint the full picture in terms of the music people are loving.

Topping PPL’s ‘Most Played Artist’ 2024 chart is Dua Lipa, with Taylor Swift coming in second, and Ed Sheeran in third place.

The holder of the title of Most Played Track 2024 is Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season”, with Teddy Swim’s “Lose Control” second, and “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone in third place.

As MusicAlly points out, 70% of the top 10 most played artists in PPL’s chart are British artists, and three out of the 10 most played tracks are by British artists. Due to the concerns within the UK industry about competition with international artists for popularity across the UK, these stats are important to take note of.

“British artists continue to perform well, making up 70% of the Top 10 – proving they have staying power across the nation’s broadcasters, businesses and public spaces,” said PPL CEO Peter Leatham.

He also added, “It is also fantastic to see fresh UK talent such as Myles Smith make a big splash in the top five most played tracks, showing there is plenty of promise in UK music going forward.”
