Marantz are bringing a sci-fi future into your living room
Marantz’s new speakers are a work of art that make your living room a Stanley Kubrick set, but can they justify their gigantic price point?
Marantz are stunning audiences with their newly announced speakers. These futuristic looking orbs promise incredible sound but the price of bringing the future into your home is steep.
The Japanese electronics company have a reputation for high-quality audio that stretches back over 70 years. They are prized by audiophiles and their newly announced speakers are clearly aimed at only the biggest of music enthusiasts, costing as much as $6,200.
First up is the Marantz Horizon, a slightly smaller orb-shaped speaker coming in at $3,500. The Grand Horizon is bigger and costs a whopping $5,500. They both come in three different colours with a matching American walnut wood tripod that can be used to hold it up, costing another $700.
Both of the speakers feature a central, 8-inch subwoofer with power up to 370W from the Grand Horizon. As well, three one-inch silk-dome tweeters and four three-inch full-rage drivers all provide a depth of sound.
The smaller Horizon still boasts an impressive 310W with a 6.5-inch subwoofer, a pair of one-inch silk-dome tweeters, and three two-inch full-range drivers. Both speakers are all-in-one, not requiring an amplifier or any extras, as you’d expect at their price.
The round design is not just for a futuristic and cool design, it allows the Horizon’s to push the sound in all directions to fill a room. They are wrapped in a fabric made out of recycled ocean plastics – which is great for the planet and looks sleek, but might raise another eyebrow over the cost of the speaker.
Marantz’s Horizon speakers feature wireless connectivity, allowing you to connect devices and play from streaming services. They use Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi, and support AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect. Both speakers support high-resolution options from services.
For the physical music listeners, wired connectivity is still available. Both Horizon speakers offer RCA, optical TOSLINK port, HDMI eARC, and a USB-C port.
On the front of each of the speakers is a ring of 100 LEDs that light up when you approach it and visually display the volume. And, that’s pretty much all of the highlights. So, does that sound like it’s worth $3k+ to you? If so, they will be available from January 14th, 2025.
