King Charles III reveals his playlist, a celebration of music from the Commonwealth featuring Bob Marley, Grace Jones, and Beyoncé.

A royal music selection

King Charles III has unveiled a personal music playlist in collaboration with Apple Music, showcasing a diverse mix of artists from across the Commonwealth nations. Released on March 10, the playlist aims to celebrate this year’s Commonwealth Day through music’s ability to unite cultures and generations.

The playlist was featured as part of The King’s Music Room, a special Apple Music broadcast on March 10 and 11, and offers a journey through then decades of music. From reggae legends and disco greats to contemporary Afrobeats stars, the selection aims to reflect both the diversity of the Commonwealth and the King’s personal musical tastes.

To launch the initiative, a video trailer was released featuring the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace performing Bob Marley’s Could You Be Loved.

“This seemed such an interesting and innovative way to celebrate this year’s Commonwealth Day.”

Who’s on the playlist?

King Charles III’s selection spans a wide array of artists, blending classic icons with contemporary stars. Notable names include Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue and Grace Jones alongside modern artists like Davido and Raye. Described as “songs which have brought me joy”, the playlist features artists from 1930s crooners, Afrobeats stars, reggae legends, disco greats and more.

“Human curation has always been a key pillar of our unique editorial approach. Apple Music Radio is where culture is happening worldwide, and we are honoured that King Charles III chose to share his personal playlist with us, and with music fans around the world.”

Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s global head of Content and Editorial

Did King Charles III really pick these songs?

Naturally, some have wondered whether King Charles III personally selected each track or if a team curated the list on his behalf. While the playlist does include a few unexpected picks, it ultimately presents a carefully crafted blend of music from across the Commonwealth.

Regardless of how it came together, the initiative celebrates artists from across the Commonwealth and reinforces music’s impact across global culture.
