It’s been in the works for some time, but Instagram has confirmed that a reposts feature is being tested.

Instagram is currently testing a new repost feature that would let users share content directly to their main Feed, according to a report by TechCrunch. The social media platform confirmed the test on 16th June 2025, marking the latest development in a feature that has been in the works since 2022.

This isn’t the first time reposts have been mentioned. In fact, back in March, we reported on the fact that Instagram appeared to be gearing up for reposts. Sarah Roizman spotted information around the feature in the platform’s help centre, and now, users are beginning to spot the feature in the wild.

Currently, users can share another person’s post to their Story or send it via direct message. But this new repost tool would go a step further, allowing people to reshare posts directly into their Feed, similar to how retweets work on X.

Some users who have access to the test say they can repost not only others’ content but also their own. This could provide a new way to re-promote older posts or highlight key content.

Instagram has become an almost overflowing pot of features in recent years, between Stories, Reels, Notes, Lives, DMs, and ads, there’s already a lot going on. As TechCrunch points out, not everyone will be thrilled about another content type added to the mix.

However, many users might welcome a simple way to share interesting content without the need for external apps or screenshot workarounds. This could be especially helpful for serious creators on Instagram. Reposts may help boost reach, increase engagement, and bring more visibility to content that deserves credit. With reposted memes and viral photos often floating around without proper attribution, an official repost feature might make it easier to ensure that creators are recognised for their work.

Instagram hasn’t shared a timeline for when the repost feature might become widely available. As with most tests, there’s no guarantee it will launch globally – or at all. Still, considering how widely reposts are used on platforms like Threads and TikTok, it wouldn’t be surprising if this becomes a regular part of the Instagram experience in the future.
