New updates for the Reels camera makes shooting polished Reels content for your music easier than ever.

Instagram is rolling out new features for its in-app camera. For artists and creators, these updates might make your next Reels smoother, quicker, and less stressful to create. Drawing on user feedback, Instagram says its Design Team has been busy improving Reels with a few new features.

Let’s dive into what’s new.

More enhanced, creator friendly Reels creation

Instagram has introduced a handful of small but meaningful improvements to Reels creation.

The most noticeable addition is the new undo button. If you’re putting together different shots for a music tease or behind-the-scenes clip, you can now easily remove the clip you added most recently to your Reel.

There’s also improved touch-up control. Replacing the on/off approach, you now get a slider to fine-tune the intensity of the effect. This means softer, more natural enhancements instead of the more over-processed look.

Ever battled with flickering while using the green screen effect? Well, Instagram has cleaned that up too. The new version should minimize this and offer a smoother experience when you’re using a backdrop.

A number of usability improvements see a refreshed timer and countdown, plus a tidier tool rail that won’t get in the way when you’re editing.

Capture longer Reels

One of the biggest updates is the ability to record Reels up to 20 minutes long directly within the Instagram camera. Instagram says the change gives users “more creative freedom and longer storytelling”. For artists, that could mean anything from sharing longer behind-the-scenes moments or even full performances.

With that in mind, Instagram only recommends Reels (in the algorithm) if they’re three minutes or less. So while the 20-minute option is a cool addition, it’s probably best used for content aimed at deeper fan engagement, not algorithm-friendly discovery.

Wrapping up

None of these changes reinvent the wheel, but they definitely help make the Reels experience feel more intuitive. For artists looking to stay active, experiment with new formats, or turn one release into a month’s worth of content, these updates make editing that much easier. If you’re looking for content ideas to get your music scene, here’s some pointers.

And if the native Instagram editor still isn’t letting you do exactly what you want, Instagram’s standalone editing app Edits is packed with tools to level-up your videos. Plus, using it has been confirmed to boost your reach, so it makes sense if you really want to get your videos off the ground.
