IKEA & Swedish House Mafia present their collaborative project: the OBEGRÄNSAD collection. The collection is a range of 20 musician-focused studio furniture products for listening, playing and making music.

At the IKEA Festival which took place during the 2022 Milan Design Week, IKEA revealed three products from the upcoming OBEGRÄNSAD collection. These include a desk for music production, an armchair for what should be comfortable sitting, and a sturdy record player for playing music – all launching in Autumn 2022.

IKEA and Swedish House Mafia: The OBEGRÄNSAD Collection

“OBEGRÄNSAD” is Swedish for “unlimited”. IKEA state that “the name hints at the target group of the collection: those with limited budget, but unlimited creativity”. First revealed at the IKEA Festival, IKEA and Swedish House Mafia aim to “democratize music production at home and enable the many to unleash their passions and creativity”.

During the 2022 Milan Design Week, the three revealed products included a desk for music production, an armchair and a turntable record player. Whether you produce electronic music or compose with real instruments, DJ or have a live performance setup with MIDI controllers, the OBEGRÄNSAD collection “offers solutions” for your home setup. In addition, it offers solutions for simply relaxing and listening to music too.

The design supports creating, playing, enjoying and even just setting the mood.

The OBEGRÄNSAD desk

The OBEGRÄNSAD desk is a “core solution” for music creators. Based on looks and the additional products announced, the desk must be at the very heart of the collection.

The OBEGRÄNSAD desk features two shelves for your studio monitors that bring your speakers to the ear level. Below the desktop, a pull-out shelf allows space for a MIDI keyboard.

Seemingly aimed specifically at bedroom producers due to its overall size, the desk features two shelves for your studio monitors that bring your speakers to the ear level. Below the desktop, a pull-out shelf allows space for a MIDI keyboard to stay out of the way. Or you could use this sliding drawer for your computer mouse & keyboard to keep the desktop space clear for instruments.

The OBEGRÄNSAD armchair

The OBEGRÄNSAD record player

But what nobody saw coming was the announcement of the OBEGRÄNSAD record player. Made with the nostalgia of the “listening experience with vinyl records” in mind, I imagine the upward trend of vinyl purchases over the past while has been a big influence on the collaboration.

Despite its minimalist yet bold look, I think you’re going to notice it in any room – and that’s not a criticism. However, this is no normal vinyl player taken from a distant past. The OBEGRÄNSAD record player is compatible with IKEA’s Bluetooth ENEBY speaker!

Availability

The IKEA Festival preview may have only focused on three key product reveals, the whole collection will launch around the world in Autumn 2022. In total, the collection will have over 20 home furnishings that will “make living spaces better suited to the needs of music creators”.

No prices are available yet, but if these studio furnishings are aimed at home studio music-making then affordability is key.
