Apple TV users are getting Dolby Atmos automatically synced on their existing TV boxes for the best in immersive sound.

Home theater setups using Apple TV to stream are about to get a whole lot better. Apple TV have added synchronisation for Dolby Atmos surround sound audio on their TV boxes in a new update.

Apple TV users can now automatically calibrate the synchronisation of Dolby Atmos sound with their speakers. It lets TV video sync Atmos audio over AirPlay and Bluetooth, accounting for latency to synchronise the picture correctly to the audio.

It comes following reports that Dolby Atmos playing through soundbars and some other speakers on Apple TV has latency issues. Anyone who’s experienced similar problems will know the frustration of watching a gripping film where character’s dialogue doesn’t line up with their lip movements.

Apple’s tvOS 18.5 update updates the previous Wireless Audio Sync feature, which uses an iPhone microphone to calibrate audio and video. Users can use the new feature once they’ve updated their Apple TV by heading to Settings, Video and Audio, then selecting Wireless Audio Sync.
