How often should you post on TikTok? Fresh study reveals the sweet spot
A recent study from Buffer has uncovered how often you really need to post on TikTok to grow your views, and the results might surprise you.
Buffer’s recent study reveals all
A new study from social media management company Buffer has revealed the optimal posting frequency for TikTok creators. Analyzing 11.4 million TikTok posts from over 150,000 accounts, the study aimed to understand how often you should post to boost your views and engagement.
For artists and creators, this is big news. TikTok continues to be one of the most powerful platforms for music discovery and fan engagement. Knowing how often to post can help you make smarter use of your time, so you can focus more on your music and less on chasing algorithms.
Is more always better?
You’ve probably heard that you need to post constantly to grow on TikTok, with golden figures like three times a day plucked from mid-air. However, Buffer’s data shows the truth is a little more nuanced.
Yes, posting more often does generally mean more views per post, but this benefit decreases the more you post. In fact, the biggest jump in performance happens when you go from posting once per week to two to five times per week. Here’s what Buffer found when moving from one post per week:
- 2 to 5 posts per week = up to 17% more views per post
- 6 to 10 posts per week = up to 29% more views per post
- 11+ posts per week = up to 34% more views per post
So, while posting 11 or more times per week gives you the biggest potential lift, the most efficient growth happens earlier. For artists, juggling music creation, rehearsals, gigs, and even full-time jobs, this is great news- you don’t need to churn out posts daily to see results.
Why the sweet spot?
Buffer’s analysis highlights something that’s easy to forget: TikTok’s algorithm doesn’t work like other platforms. Your success isn’t tied to follower count, which means any video can blow up. Essentially, every post is another chance to go viral.
As Kirsti Lang, Senior Content Writer at Buffer puts it:
“Posting more helps- but mostly because it increases your chances of getting lucky. TikTok is heavily-tailed. You only need one post to pop off. Posting more just increases your odds.”
That also means that even if you post 11+ times per week, your views from video-to-video will remain fairly similar. More videos just means more chances to go viral, which will only boost your average views overall if one takes off. With that being said, views on a viral video are more likely to be higher if you’re posting more often:

Quality still rules
While frequency can help, quality always wins. Viewers can tell when content feels rushed or forced, and you’ll only lose engagement as a result. Instead, find a balance that lets you stay consistent without sacrificing creativity.
For artists, Buffer’s findings show that small, manageable increases in posting frequency can make a real difference. However, it’s your creativity and authenticity that will keep fans coming back.
What this means for musicians
If you’re an artist trying to grow your presence on TikTok, the message is clear: you don’t need to post 24/7 to succeed. Posting two to five times a week is enough to boost your visibility and give your music more chances to be heard.
This can be adapted to your schedule. The more you want to show up, the better your odds of performing in front of a new audience.
