Google Search Profiles could change how artists are discovered
Google’s new Search Profiles helps creators and publishers manage how they appear across Google Search and Discover.
Google is giving creators more control over how they appear online. With the launch of Search Profiles, eligible creators can now build a dedicated presence on Google Search, bringing together their social accounts, videos, websites, and other content in one place.
For artists and musicians, it’s another sign that search visibility is becoming just as important as streaming and social media when it comes to growing an audience.
What are Google Search Profiles?
Google describes Search Profiles as a dedicated, shareable space that allows creators and publishers to showcase content from across the web. Eligible users can customise their profile with a bio, avatar, website links, social media accounts, videos, and other key content.
According to Google, Search Profiles are designed to help creators “shape their presence on Search” while making it easier for audiences to find accurate and up-to-date information about them online.
For creators who qualify, claiming a profile may also create or enhance a Google Knowledge Panel, giving them greater control over how they appear when someone searches for their name.
Search is becoming a bigger part of discovery
While streaming platforms and social media remain key for audience growth, Google is now placing more emphasis on how creators show up across Search and Discover.
Search Profiles are directly connected to Google Discover, the personalised content feed available through the Google app. Users can follow creators from their profile, making it easier for future content to surface across Google’s ecosystem.
That’s significant because it gives creators another potential route to reach audiences beyond traditional music platforms. A fan might first discover an artist through a search result, an interview, a social post, or a video before ever landing on a streaming service.
As online discovery becomes more fragmented, having a centralised presence that connects all of your content could become increasingly valuable.
What this means for independent artists
The launch reflects a wider trend across the music industry that visibility is no longer limited to streaming services alone.
Artists today need a consistent presence everywhere fans might discover them, whether that’s Spotify, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Apple Music, or Google Search. Search Profiles are Google’s latest attempt to bring those touchpoints together in one place.
For independent musicians, that means artist branding, profile optimisation, and discoverability are becoming more closely linked. Consistent artist names, imagery, links, and release information can help create a stronger online identity and make it easier for potential fans to connect the dots between platforms. The idea of bringing everything together in one place will already be familiar to artists using tools like PUSH.fm, which help centralise music links, social profiles, and promotional content for fans.
Looking ahead
Search Profiles are initially rolling out in the US and are currently limited to creators and publishers with sizeable followings.
While not every artist will be eligible immediately, the update highlights how search is becoming a bigger part of audience discovery. The easier it is for fans to find your music, content, and online presence, the better positioned you’ll be to grow your audience.
