Cinematic Guitars ULTRA: Sample Logic’s new heavy-hitting instrument for film scores
Sample Logic has introduced its new Cinematic Guitars ULTRA for composers and producers, boasting a vast array of features and capabilities as Cinematic Guitars ULTRA distinguishes itself from conventional guitar sample libraries with 384 multi-sampled guitar instruments and presets.
The libraries amount to over 21 GB of audio content which sums to a comprehensive suite of guitar sounds. Included in the libraries are a diverse range of acoustics, electrics, basses, amps, plucks, and more, curated by renowned guitar expert Steve Ouimette.
The next big hitter in film scoring?
Although it is a pretty deep instrument, Sample Logic has designed Cinematic Guitars ULTRA to be easy to use. Its interface is divided into four cores with individual sound sources and parameters while its extensive modulation capabilities provide a plethora of modulator modules like LFOs, velocity control and key modulators which you can map to almost every parameter.
At the core of Cinematic Guitars ULTRA is Sample Logic’s UltraEngine, a state-of-the-art audio engine that provides comprehensive control and flexibility. In practice, the UltraEngine enables you to manipulate sounds with precise control thanks to its intelligent X/Y mixer automation and UltraBand Sound Sculptor.
You can mute, solo, and tweak individual sources or preview and refine sounds on the fly. With its randomization and so-called humanization features, the new Cinematic Guitars instrument provides inspiration and plenty of controls to curate listenable soundtracks.
Additionally, the instruments’ dual arpeggiator and chord player provide an interactive interface for expressive composition whether you’re an experienced composer or not.
Finally, the sound library in Cinematic Guitars ULTRA includes a wide range of instrument categories, from traditional acoustic and electric guitars to exotic instruments like the “Ouija Board”, “Cigar Box”, and “Dobrotron” which is my personal favourite. Sample Logic recorded and processed each sample for high-fidelity playback and versatility while the library also includes 18 wavetables and 165 multi-core presets for explorative sound design!
Pricing and compatibility
Available now for a limited discount of $299.99, Cinematic Guitars ULTRA’s retail price will be $399.99. The software is compatible with MacOS X 10 and Windows 8 or later and available in AU and VST3 formats, although there is no support for AAX right now and it’s unclear if there will be anytime soon. For such a price<I do hope there will be support for Pro Tools sooner than later considering it’s the industry standard in film & TV sound.
