Users can find out what song is playing within ChatGPT thanks to a new Shazam integration.

If typing in a prompt feels quicker to you than tapping a single button, then good news! Apple has brought Shazam, its song-identifying software, into OpenAI’s ChatGPT app. This is just the latest in a flurry of partnerships and third-party integrations for OpenAI.

According to Music Business Worldwide, prompts such as “Shazam, what’s playing?” or “Shazam, what is this song?” will trigger the tool.

Instead of sending users to another app, the result appears directly within the conversation. A card displays the song title, the artist, and the album artwork. Users can also preview the track from the same interface.

If the Shazam app is installed on the device, the recognised song can be saved to the user’s Shazam library. However, the integration works even if Shazam is not installed, as Digital Music News highlights, meaning the feature is available to anyone using ChatGPT.

According to Shazam, the goal is to keep the process simple inside the chatbot environment. The company said, “The Shazam app for ChatGPT brings the ease and speed of Shazam’s music recognition technology to ChatGPT, for a simple, seamless way to name and preview songs without leaving the chatbot.”

The integration is part of a wider push by OpenAI to expand the capabilities of ChatGPT through external apps. The company launched an app ecosystem in October 2025, bringing a range of partners into the platform. As MBW points out, early collaborators included Spotify, Canva, Booking.com, Expedia, Figma, Coursera, and Zillow.

Music has become an increasing focus for these integrations. The Spotify connection allows users to link their account and receive personalised music or podcast recommendations without leaving the chat window.

Later, Apple Music was added to ChatGPT as well. This lets subscribers search for songs and build playlists through prompts in a similar way. The Shazam integration takes a slightly different approach. Instead of focusing on listening or playlist creation, it focuses on identifying music. However, users can then ask ChatGPT to create playlists inspired by the Shazam result, as DMN notes.

The Shazam/ChatGPT integration has been rolled out globally across iOS, Android, and web versions of the chatbot.
