Brazil’s music boom: Spotify reveals Brazilian artists earned $281m in royalties in 2024
Brazil’s music market is one of the fastest growing, with Spotify boasting its role in the rise.
Brazil’s music market is on fire
Brazil is one of the fastest-growing music markets in the world, and Spotify is keen to show how it’s playing a major role in that rise. As part of its most recent Loud & Clear release, Spotify has shared a number of statistics that emphasizes the growth of Brazil’s music industry.
Spotify launched in Brazil in 2015, and has overseen major growth for the country in recent years. In 2024 alone, Brazilian artists earned BRL 1.6 billion (USD $281.9 million) in royalties from the platform- a 31% increase from 2023 and double what Brazilian artists saw in 2021.
How Spotify is fueling the growth
Spotify credits its freemium model for helping to reduce piracy in Brazil, where it once dominated. By making streaming more accessible to many, it has turned casual listeners into dedicated fans.
For artists, tools like Spotify for Artists has been key. Spotify believes the platform’s suite of features gives musicians insights into their performance, empowering them to succeed. Through global music streaming, Spotify positions itself as a platform that is “building a more inclusive and equitable global music economy, where any artist, anywhere, can thrive on their terms”.
A global reach for Brazilian artists
Perhaps there is some truth in Spotify’s claim on Brazil’s streaming growth, as the 31% growth of Brazilian artists’ revenues on Spotify is outpacing the growth of Brazil’s music market overall.
Other notable figures from the report include:
- Over 60% of royalties generated in Brazil stayed within the local scene
- Brazilian music is streamed for more than 25 million hours every day, both locally and globally
- First-time discoveries of Brazilian artists rose 19% year-over-year, reaching 11.8 billion
- Over 815 million user playlists include Brazilian artists
“Royalties generated on Spotify for Brazilian artists are rising faster than Brazil’s music market as a whole. Our Loud & Clear report lays those gains out in black and white, while Spotify for Artists lets every creator see their own performance in real time. Together, that transparency gives musicians the confidence to turn momentum into the next single, a bigger tour, or an ambitious new project.”

The global appeal of streaming
Streaming is helping to break down geographical borders. Brazilian artists are connecting with audiences far beyond Brazil, with international streams of female stars MC STER, Anitta, and Bibi Babydoll increasing by 51% in 2024.
As international interest in Brazilian music grows, the opportunities for artists, labels, and rights holders are only set to expand. This isn’t just isolated to Brazil though, as other music industries are expanding globally– opening more opportunities around the world.
