Apple have revealed the artist who has seen more impact than anyone else on their streaming service this year.
The Artist of the Year on Apple Music for 2023 is Taylor Swift. This year Swift was charting like crazy with a slew of albums and sell-out stadium concerts marking a massive year.
She’s already a regular on top of the year lists, but 2023 was an extra special one for Swift. She released a bunch of re-recordings of her old music, to take back control from the rightsholders of her older albums.
These re-recordings have spurred a furor in her fanbase and allowed Swift to release 2 albums in 2023. In fact, 3 albums if you count the ‘Til Dawn’ version of last year’s release ‘Midnights’.
All of this has seen 65 Swift songs enter Apple Music’s Global Daily Top 100 in the first 10 months of 2023. You read that right, 65! That’s more than any other artist before, unsurprisingly.
On being named Apple Music’s Artist of the Year, Swift said she was “so honoured”. Adding: “Thank you to every single one of you for making this year the most incredible, joyful, celebratory year ever.
“From streaming the music nonstop to screaming it together in real life at the shows, dancing chaotically in movie theatres, none of this would have been possible without you. Thank you so much.”
To celebrate Swift’s dominance on Apple Music, the streaming service is… uh, giving you more chances to listen to her! Apple Music have added radio programmes exploring Swift’s catalogue, including interviews and playlists following her career from beginning to now.
Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats, Oliver Schusser said: “Taylor Swift’s impact on music is absolutely undeniable – not just this record-breaking year, but throughout her entire career.
“She is a generation-defining artist and a true change agent in the music industry, and there is no doubt that her impact and influence will be felt for years to come. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate her achievements.”
