Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums book is ridiculous
Apple Music’s controversial top 100 albums list drew ire for it’s choices, now it’s being released as a book and you won’t believe the cost.
In May this year, Apple Music dared to name the 100 best albums of all time. Their top 100 list was a bold attempt to define the cream of the crop in music history, collated by editors like Pharrell, J Balvin, and Charli XCX, as well as songwriters, producers, and other industry professionals.
The list drew questions from music critics for its choices and placement, for example the fact that To Pimp a Butterfly was nowhere to be seen. The Needle Drop also pointed out a lack of revolutionary jazz rock artists like Frank Zappa being overlooked for Steely Dan.
The list was, of course, still full of greats and it made a lot of noise. Now, music lovers can get a hold of a book for their coffee table containing Apple Music’s 100 top albums of all time. There’s a catch however: It comes at a massive price tag.
Apple have partnered with lifestyle publisher Assouline to produce ‘Apple Music: 100 Best Albums’, a custom engraved white-and-gold bound book. Only 1,500 copies of the book will be produced, and it will cost $450 for the privilege of owning one.
Apple Music write of the book: “Encompassing more than 65 years of music – and multiple genres, from country, pop, and rock to hip-hop and electronic – the list spans from 1959, with Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue, to as recently as Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti, which debuted in 2022.”
The asinine – sorry – Assouline book contains a foreword written by Zane Lowe, Apple Music’s renowned DJ and presenter. It will ship from January 9th and you can pre-order yours here, if you really want to.
