Apple Music adds offline lyrics in iOS 26.2
Apple’s latest update lets Apple Music users access lyrics anytime, anywhere, with no signal required.
Apple Music is giving its lyrics feature a welcome boost in the upcoming iOS 26.2 update, by letting users view lyrics even when they’re offline. The feature, already spotted in the beta version, adds another small but meaningful upgrade to the listening experience.
Apple’s latest iOS 26.2 beta has already made it easier to share engaging lyric visuals directly to your WhatsApp Status. Now, music fans will no longer need a Wi-Fi or data connection to follow along to the lyrics of your favorite songs. As 9to5Mac reports, Reddit users were the first to notice that Apple Music’s lyrics now work offline.
Offline lyrics marks the latest enhancement to Apple Music’s lyrics feature. Since introducing lyrics back in 2016, Apple has slowly improved its lyrics feature, with the latest being lyric translations and pronunciation made possible with iOS 26.
Now, offline lyrics access is joining the mix.
Why it matters
Until now, Apple Music users needed an internet or data connection to see the platform’s real-time lyrics. The new update solves that, letting listeners sing along wherever they go. That makes it perfect for if you find yourself on the move with no signal, but still want to follow along to your favorite tracks.
It’s not a headline-grabbing feature, but it’s still a useful one. Just take a look at the Reddit response which is overwhelmingly supportive of the feature, with one user commenting that they’ve “been waiting for this for a long time”.
Offline lyrics also put Apple ahead of Spotify, which still requires an active connection to access lyrics. And if anything, it simply reinforces Apple’s commitment to gradually improving its streaming experience for listeners, even if it’s one subtle update at a time.
