Apple Music has revealed a new brand identity featuring a redesigned logo, a black-and-white colour scheme and visuals shaped by music itself.

Apple Music has officially unveiled a new logo and brand identity, revealing how sound itself helped shape the streaming service’s refreshed look. Announced on the 21st of October, the rebrand was developed with British producer Fred again.. and audio collaborators NEST Acoustics.

The announcement follows the appearance of a redesigned Apple Music logo and app icon in software updates earlier this month. Now, Apple has shared a behind-the-scenes video explaining how it brought the new visual identity to life.

How Apple Music turned sound into visuals

In its video, Apple explains that it wanted sound to create the visuals, rather than simply designing a logo and adding music afterwards.

The team played musical notes through a specially designed rig that made liquid move in response to different frequencies. By placing Apple Music’s branding behind the vibrating liquid and filming the resulting movements, the team captured ripples and distortions that became the basis of the new look.

As The Verge reports, the project combines the redesigned branding with a new sound composed by Fred again.. and NEST Acoustics. Apple describes the identity as “made by sound”, turning music into something that can be seen as well as heard.

The result is a fluid, liquid-inspired visual style that gives the familiar music-note symbol a fresh appearance.

What’s changed in the new Apple Music logo?

The updated identity replaces Apple Music’s established red colour scheme with black and white, while introducing a redesigned app icon and wordmark. The wordmark uses a bolder, lowercase style, giving the branding a more contemporary feel.

The new look also fits with Apple’s wider Liquid Glass design direction, introduced across its software in 2025. The aesthetic uses translucent, glass-like visual elements, making the liquid-inspired branding a natural fit for the company’s broader design language.

According to MacRumors, the rebrand is set to roll out alongside Apple’s upcoming software releases, including iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2. Apple’s refreshed branding has also begun appearing on its website.

The change marks a notable update for Apple Music’s visual identity, which has been recognisable by its red-and-white music-note logo since the service launched in 2015.

For now, Apple’s behind-the-scenes video offers the clearest look at the thinking behind the redesign, showing how an original musical composition became the starting point for the service’s new visual identity.
