Apple Music expands AutoMix with AirPlay support, making transitions smoother across more devices
Apple’s iOS 26.1 update gives AutoMix a boost, now bringing seamless transitions to AirPlay devices.
An AutoMix upgrade
Apple’s iOS 26 update gave Apple’s interface a major overhaul. A refreshed Apple Music experience included handy tools like Library Pinning, Lyrics Translation, Lyrics Pronunciation, animated lock screen album art, and the AI-powered AutoMix feature.
Now, with iOS 26.1, Apple is already upgrading AutoMix again according to 9to5Mac.
What is AutoMix?
If you’re not already familiar, AutoMix is like having your own personal DJ built into Apple Music. Powered by Apple Intelligence, it automatically time-stretches and beat-matches your tracks for seamless transitions between songs.
While some listeners find it can occasionally cut tracks off a little early (like me), others find it a much welcome addition. Either way, it’s a smart new feature that makes playback more dynamic.
Turn on AutoMix by heading to Settings > Apps > Music > Song Transitions. Or, you can find more info about how to get started with AutoMix here.

What’s new?
So far, AutoMix has been limited to AirPods or your iPhone’s built-in speakers. With the latest update, Apple is expanding support to AirPlay devices. That means smoother song transitions are now possible on more speakers and screens around your home.
That includes compatible Smart TVs, wireless speakers, and even Apple’s HomePods. It’s a subtle but welcome change that makes the feature more accessible, especially for those who would rather play their music on louder speakers.
A small but welcome upgrade
While not a groundbreaking upgrade, this tweak highlights Apple’s commitment to improving its streaming experience one little feature at a time. For example, Apple recently made it easier to skip songs in Apple Music’s new iOS 26 user interface. Meanwhile, last week it was rumored that Apple Music users will be able to enjoy offline lyrics and more easily share music to their WhatsApp Status in the upcoming iOS update.
With AutoMix now working seamlessly over AirPlay, those transitions will sound just as smooth through your living room speakers as they do in your headphones.
