Amazon Echo Speaker

Amazon Echo

Amazon released a new can shaped bluetooth speaker. While it does everything you’d expect from a bluetooth speaker, it’s main function is set to be it’s Siri/Google Now style personal information and entertainment butler. The Echo will provide you with weather, travel, news and general information. Seven microphones, a tweeter and woofer + reflex port, will give you enhanced bass without distortion.

It will work via the iOS, Fire OS and Android app. Spotify, Amazon Prime Music, iHeartRadio, TuneIn Plus and Pandora will all play nice too.

The main confusion I have with this speaker is, who will buy this? If you feel a need to use Siri/Google Now (which in my case is never) use your phone… and save the $200 this will set you back. It’s currently only available in the US to invite applicants. Prime users will be able to save a hefty $100 off the price, but seriously, you can get some decent bluetooth speakers, that don’t have this gimmick for even cheaper.
