Apple’s top-end, over-ear AirPods Max are launching in five new colors and swapping the Lightning port for USB-C.

At yesterday’s Apple event, we saw new iPhones, an Apple Watch and AirPods. One of the smallest updates in the event, was the changes to AirPods Max. Apple’s AirPods Max headphones still have the same same design and features, such as ANC, Personalized Spatial Audio, Adaptive EQ and more smart features.

The first of two changes is the new colors. Midnight, Starlight, Blue, Purple and Orange are replacing Space Gray, Silver, Sky Blue, Green and Pink. While Midnight and Space Gray, as well as Blue and Sky Blue are very similar, Silver, Green and Pink are being ditched completely, with no close replacement. Apple has stopped selling the old colors, but you can still buy them on Amazon.

The second change is USB-C charging, which is replacing Lightning, as Apple makes this change across their products.

You can pre-order the new AirPods Max today and they’ll be available September 20. They are $549, which is the same RRP as before. Amazon are currently selling the previous generation, which I’ll remind you are exactly the same, minus the USB-C port and colors, for $459. Ensure you absolutely need USB-C, or Starlight, Purple or Orange color headphones before parting with an additional $90.
