The disco classic becomes ABBA’s second track to join Spotify’s Billions Club, as the group’s streaming numbers surge in 2025.
The latest Billions Club entry
ABBA’s 1979 anthem ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)’ has officially surpassed one billion streams on Spotify. It marks the band’s second entry into Spotify’s Billions Club, following ‘Dancing Queen’, which crossed the threshold in July 2023.
The Billions Club is Spotify’s dedicated playlist for all songs that have racked up over one billion streams on Spotify. It’s rapidly approaching 1,000 entries (despite reports suggesting it has already hit this milestone), and ABBA’s latest inclusion comes right on the heels of Rick Astley’s iconic ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’.
Despite being released more than four decades ago, ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme!’ continues to find new life. In fact, January 1 is now the track’s most-streamed day of all time. But then again, are there many songs more befitting of the post-midnight celebrations to kick off the new year?
The band took to Instagram to celebrate the milestone:
A comeback powered by Gen Z
Spotify data reveals that Gen Z is behind much of ABBA’s recent renaissance. This year, Spotify has recorded over 11 million first-time ABBA discoveries by Gen Z listeners, accounting for half of all global discoveries of the group in 2025.
They’re not just discovering the tracks and leaving them alone either. Gen Z currently makes up 50% of ABBA’s total streaming audience worldwide, and even surpasses Sweden with 35%- where the group originates from.
Gen Z aren’t just driving the revival of ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme!’ either. Other top-streamed ABBA tracks among Gen Z this year include ‘Dancing Queen,’ ‘Lay All Your Love On Me,’ ‘The Winner Takes It All,’ and ‘Mamma Mia’.
ABBA’s enduring legacy
ABBA’s music is being streamed and discovered at a staggering rate. The group’s entire catalogue has seen a 150% increase in global streams over the last five years, and their songs find themselves in nearly 130 million-user generated playlists.
The continued success of ABBA proves that catchy hooks, a bit of disco flair, and timeless songwriting can resonate across generations. Whether you’re weaving ABBA into your daily listening playlists or dancing along to them at parties, ABBA remains a cultural mainstay.
