Hook: Legal remixes are on their way to social media
Hook are gaining funding to expand their app in the hopes of making legal remixes possible across social media platforms.
Hook is a new startup and AI-powered application that look to solve a deep problem across social platforms. They hope to make it possible to use remixes on social apps legally. In, addition, they will help artists to earn from manipulations of their content.
If you’re on TikTok, Shorts, Reels, or anything similar, you’ve no doubt come across content with “remixes” of popular tracks that are either slowed down or sped up. The problem is that this audio has often been manipulated unofficially. Therefore, the artist loses out on both credit for their track and compensation for its use.
Hook are proposing a solution. Their app allows users to remix songs. Hook can then compensate the artists as they know exactly which song has been manipulated. Creators can then use their clips for videos on platforms like TikTok whilst the artist gets their due.
Hook lets users pick up to 60 seconds of a song which they can isolate and then mix with AI-powered tools. The startup is still in its early stages, they haven’t explicitly stated what their tools can do.
They have announced that a $3 Million Seed investment round for Hook has now closed. The investment goes towards developing their platform and bringing it to the public. They will work with artists and record labels to develop their business in the favour of users and rightsholders alike.
Hook’s founder and CEO, Gaurav Sharma explained: “We want to use AI to make it really easy for fans to remix and imprint their own creativity on their favourite moment of music. And we are all doing it as a value proposition to the content owners and labels by acting almost like a content management system.
“Derivative songs don’t often have copyrights attached to them, so we are building a platform that leans into using AI while having a strong commitment to solving attribution and compensation problems.”
