Spotify has unveiled 2026 Songs of the Summer predicitons, opening up voting to listeners for the first time.

Spotify has dropped its annual Songs of Summer predictions for 2026, revealing the tracks its editors think could soundtrack playlists, parties, road trips, and everything in between over the coming months.

This year’s selection pulls from across dance, pop, Afrobeats, indie, and country, mixing chart contenders, viral potential, and globally influenced sounds. And for the very first time, Spotify is also letting users vote inside the app for the track they think will become the season’s biggest hit.

As Spotify’s Editorial Lead, Pop, Talia Kraines, explains, “a song of the summer is about the vibes” — a track that can connect “across genres, people, and countries.”

Dance nostalgia, global sounds, and a softer summer mood

A few clear themes run through Spotify’s 2026 picks.

Dance music remains a summer constant, but this year there’s a strong nostalgic streak. Spotify highlights tracks like “New Religion” by Bebe Rexha and Faithless and “Jamaican (Bam Bam)” by HUGEL and SOLTO, while songs including “Talk To You” by ANOTR and 54 Ultra and “DANCE…” by Slayyyter pull from disco, ’90s house, and early-2000s electronic influences.

Global sounds are equally prominent. As Spotify reports, songs like DopeNation’s “Kakalika” and “CHÉVERE” by ARIA VEGA and Ryan Castro fuse styles spanning Amapiano, azonto, Caribbean, Latin, and Afrobeats – continuing a wider trend of cross-border genre blending shaping streaming culture.

But summer 2026 isn’t all high-energy anthems. Spotify’s predicted “sadboy summer” trend makes room for moodier listening too, with artists including Dominic Fike, Dexter and The Moonrocks, and Malcolm Todd landing among the platform’s picks.

The bigger picture behind Spotify’s picks

Beyond the individual tracks, Spotify’s 2026 predictions reflect a wider shift in how audiences are listening.

The playlist moves comfortably between club records, introspective indie cuts, globally influenced sounds, and country storytelling. That kind of genre fluidity has become increasingly common across streaming, where mood, culture, and playlist fit can matter as much as traditional genre labels.

For artists, summer still represents a valuable discovery window. Seasonal playlists, social moments, and changing listener habits can all influence what gains traction. Whether you’re releasing dance music, alt-pop, country, or something harder to categorise, timing releases well and getting music live across platforms early can help maximise those opportunities.

Spotify’s predictions won’t guarantee the year’s defining hit, but they do offer a useful snapshot of the sounds, moods, and trends shaping music discovery right now.
