Spotify makes it easy to identify real artists with new “Verified by Spotify” badge
Spotify introduces verification badge to help listeners identify real artists, boost transparency, and strengthen trust across the platform in today’s AI age.
So far this year, we’ve seen Spotify roll out a number of tools designed to offer more context and clarity around music on its platform. From tools like About the Song and Song Credits to SongDNA and Artist Profile Protection, Spotify has been steadily moving toward a more transparent platform.
Now, Spotify is doubling down on this transparency. As AI-generated music continues to flood streaming platforms, Spotify is introducing a new “Verified by Spotify” badge and is expanding artist details (in beta). The goal? Make it easier for listeners to identify authentic artists, and give genuine artists the opportunity to build genuine connections with fans.
Spotify launches “Verified by Spotify”
At its core, “Verified by Spotify” is a new badge that clearly signals whether an artist has met Spotify’s criteria for authenticity and trust.
You’ll start to see it appear on artist profiles and alongside names in search results, marked by a light green checkmark and a “Verified by Spotify” label. It’s a small visual cue that acts as a quick, reliable signal that an artist has been reviewed and is genuine.
How to get “Verified by Spotify”
Spotify sets out some clear guidelines. To earn the badge, artists must have:
- Consistent listener engagement over time, not just one-time spikes in listening activity
- Good standing with Spotify’s platform policies, both in terms of the artist and their content
- Clear signs of real-world artist activity both on and off-Spotify, like concert dates, merch, or linked social profiles
Importantly, profiles that appear to be primarily AI-generated will not be eligible for verification, at least for now. Spotify has said its approach will continue to evolve as the concept of artist authenticity shifts.
To keep things consistent and accurate, the platform is also combining these criteria with human review and standards on an ongoing basis.

Deeper artist context too
Alongside verification, Spotify is also rolling out a new artist details section (in beta). It lives within the About section of artist profiles and highlights key information like career milestones, release history, and touring activity. Think of it as a quick snapshot of an artist’s journey.
Crucially, this added context isn’t limited to verified artists. Even those without the badge can showcase their story, giving listeners more ways to understand and connect with the music they’re discovering.
Why this matters
For listeners, the benefit is obvious. Both tools make it easier to identify whether an artist is real. Helpfully, Spotify says at launch, over 99% of the artists that users actively search for will already be verified. That spans hundreds of thousands of artists (the majority independent) across genres, career stages, and geographies. That means fans can quickly confirm the legitimacy of the artists they love.
On the flip side, the feature could arguably be even more valuable for breakout artists, where uncertainty is often highest these days. But, just because an artist doesn’t have a badge to begin with, doesn’t mean they won’t get one later down the line.
For artists, it’s all about credibility. In today’s AI age, having a clear signal of authenticity can help build trust, deepen fan relationships, and stand out from AI-generated artists.
Moving forward
Spotify has made it clear that this is just the next step in its process of promoting transparency on its platform.
As AI continues to reshape the music industry, tools like “Verified by Spotify” highlight the shift in how we discover and trust music online. The company has already acknowledged that its approach will evolve over time, refining how it deals with authentic artistry.
For now though, the direction is clear: more transparency and more context to help build trust and develop stronger connections between artists and fans.
