Spotify offers “Promped Playlist” prompt suggestions amid beta expansion
Spotify’s AI-generated playlist feature, “Prompted Playlist” is expanding to the UK, Ireland, Australia, and Sweden.
Back in December last year, Spotify rolled out its AI-generated playlist feature “Prompted Playlist” to Premium users in New Zealand. An initial expansion saw the feature reach Canada and the US last month, and now it’s coming to the UK, Ireland, Australia, and Sweden. This comes as both YouTube Music and Apple Music announce their own AI playlist features.
Spotify says that more fans can now “curate the right music for the right moment”, and this can be done by describing that music or moment in their own words. That’s essentially the core of what “Prompted Playlist” is. Users can enter text-based prompts to create playlists designed to match, featuring familiar songs as well as sounds that are new to the user. “Prompted Playlist draws on your full listening history and combines it with what’s happening across the world of music and culture right now, so the result reflects both your old favorites and what’s trending”
Spotify’s suggest playlist prompts
As “Prompted Playlist” becomes more widely available around the world, the platform has shared some advice and ideas for users looking to get started. You can be broad or detailed with your prompts, and you can also refine them after a playlist has been generated, for any required fine-tuning.
For a nostalgia-fueled mix of 2000s British pop
If this sounds like your kind of playlist, Spotify suggests using this prompt: Make a playlist of British pop bangers from the ‘00s that made me the diva I am today. Add the top tracks I’ve replayed and fill the gaps with era-defining hits I might have missed.

To explore emerging and First Nations artists from Australia
If you’re looking to discover music by artists from a specific place, Spotify suggests a prompt like this: Create a list of Australian artists that I haven’t heard before. Focus on newer and emerging artists and make sure First Nations artists are included in your recommendations.

To go deep on one new-to-you artist
Fancy going all-in on a brand-new-to-you artist? Here’s Spotify’s prompt: Find one artist I haven’t listened to yet but would probably love, or an artist I’ve only heard one or two songs from, and introduce me to them. Build a playlist of songs that’ll give me an overview of their catalog so it feels like I’m getting to know them. Put the songs you think I’ll like most in the top five spots.

What can we learn from these prompts?
Looking at Spotify’s example prompts, one thing is clear: detail matters.
Even when the requests sound fun or casual, they’re still specific. They include a decade, a country, a genre, or a discovery angle. “British pop bangers from the ‘00s” narrows things down by era and location. Asking for “newer and emerging Australian artists” adds both geography and career stage. Wanting an artist you haven’t heard before signals discovery.
These aren’t vague requests. They’re guided. The key is to remember that AI can’t read your mind and, if you want better results, you need to give it that direction. Without clear details, you’ll likely get something broad and generic, or you’ll have to spend time refining it – which fortunately is an option that Spotify gives you.
As AI tools become more common across streaming platforms, learning how to prompt properly is becoming a useful skill. The more intentional and descriptive you are, the closer the result will be to what you actually want.
