Rosalía’s ‘LUX’ makes history to become the most streamed album in a single day by a Spanish-speaking female artist.

A record-breaking debut

Rosalía’s latest album, LUX, has officially set a new Spotify record. Released on November 7, the project racked up more than 42.1 million streams within 24 hours, making it the most-streamed album in a single day by a Spanish-speaking female artist.

The album surpassed the former record in the process, held by Karol G’s 2023 album Mañana Será Bonito which debuted with 35.7 million streams on its first day. Impressively, it also more than doubles Rosalía’s previous best, achieved by her 2022 release Motomami, which earned 16 million first-day streams.

According to Digital Music News, the album also dominated Spotify’s charts on release day. It held five songs in the Global Top 20, 11 in the Top 50, and 14 in the Top 100 on release day.

Inside the album

The rollout for LUX only began a month ago, when Rosalía announced the project and dropped the album’s lead single, Berghain. The album features 18 tracks divided into four movements across the album’s one-hour runtime. Impressively, Rosalía performs 13 different languages across the record, and is a testament to her global appeal.

The project marks her first full-length release in three years.

Why it matters

The reasons behind an album’s success is not something to easily break down. DMN points to Rosalía’s stylistic shift away from her usual flamenco-pop sound, with that creative pivot drawing in both longtime fans and curious new listeners.

Others, like MBW, suggest it could signal the growing popularity of Spanish-language music across the globe. They note that artists like Bad Bunny continue to break these barriers, who recently became the first Spanish-language artist to earn Grammy nominations in three of the Big Four categories for his latest album. Not to mention, he’s currently scheduled to headline the halftime show at Super Bowl 2026.

Could Spotify’s recently expanded Spanish support in its DJ feature be more evidence of Latin music’s rising global appeal

The bigger picture

Whether it’s Rosalía’s artistry shing through or the momentum of Spanish-language music, LUX is a record breaker. It’s more than just that though. It also represents the ongoing globalization of music, made possible by streaming, where language is less of a boundary.

For the industry, that’s worth paying attention to. As Spanish-speaking artists continue to make headlines, it’s clear that the mainstream is now part of its audience.
