New features come to both Apple and Android with iOS 26
It’s not just iPhones that are getting updates with the huge release of iOS 26 as Apple Music updates come to Android.
This month, Apple released the huge new iOS 26 software update for iPhone users. Big new features coming to Apple Music aren’t just being made available for Apple devices, as Android has received an update to their Apple Music app.
Whilst more limited than the Apple version of their updated music streaming app, three of the main updates are being carried across to Android. Let’s dive into what’s new on Android.
Pin your favourite music
Apple Music users can now pin the songs, albums, and playlists that they love the most to their library. This allows users to jump straight back in to their favourites when they open the app.
Pinned content appears as a grid at the top of the library which you can simply tap to begin playing. Users can even customise what a tap on each of their pins does: Go to that content, play, or shuffle.
Pins are easily added using the ‘Pin’ button at the top of the three-dot menus attached to content. Users can head to their settings and select pins as automatically downloaded content, so their favourites are always on tap.
Pins are synchronised across Apple devices.
Lyrics translation and pronunciation
Apple’s new lyrics feature aims to break down the barriers between languages in music vocals by translating lyrics to the user’s native tongue. Apple want listeners to “understand the lyrics and sing across languages”.
The new feature can both translate lyrics to another language from the sung language, but can also help native speakers sing along with pronunciation guidelines. Apple state that their lyrics are translated with machine learning and then “language experts” refine the results to “ensure the emotion, cultural context, and lyrical intent are fully preserved”.
The setting is found in Settings, under ‘Display Options’ and in the Lyrics menu.
Recap your musical moments
Apple’s new ‘Replay’ feature lets users dive into their stats by month and year from the app. This is a simple way to check music trends and for users to look back at what they listened to the most in the last month or at the end of the year.
However, the updates do not bring a new visual design to Apple Music on Android. Apple also haven’t brought AutoMix to Android, a new feature that uses AI to analyse audio to create unique and seamless transitions with beat matching and time stretching.
