New SoundCloud tags 1st in a series of coming features
SoundCloud has released a new feature to power the community and connect listeners over new music that friends and artists are listening to.
SoundCloud have introduced a new feature called ‘Liked By Indicators’. These tags aim to help listeners focus in on the music that their community is loving, with quick and simple peer approval signifiers to initiate a dive inside.
The ‘Liked By’ tags will appears on songs, showing users which of their friends, fans, and the artists they like are enjoying. Simply put, it shows users what content the people they follow have liked, isolating the familiar names from the overall likes.
The tag will appear on songs within playlists, search results, and other areas of SoundCloud’s platform. The hope is that the tag will inspire listeners to dive into new music as they explore the platform, with the approval of their community encouraging a play on new music.
Announcing the feature, SoundCloud write: “Music is better when it’s shared. Whether it’s a friend who always puts you on to the right vibe, or an artist you follow for inspiration, Liked By lets you discover songs through the people you trust most – right where you’re already listening.”
They state that the feature is an example of their value in combining music and community, adding that “Liked By Indicators are just the beginning of a larger evolution”. SoundCloud tease that other discovery features are coming in the future and will be even “more powerful”.
They hope that ‘Liked By Indicators’ will also encourage users to follow more accounts, such as artists they love or find their friends. A follow of your favourite artists now not only means that you stay up to date with their new uploads, but can discover the music they’re connecting with.
So, what is next for SoundCloud? They write: “This is the first of several new features coming in 2025 that will make SoundCloud more interactive, more social, and more reflective of the culture our users help shape every day. We’re focused on giving you more ways to connect with each other, celebrate the music you love, and be part of something bigger than a playlist.”
‘Liked By Indicators’ are available around the world on iOS and Android for all listeners.
