Apple may reportedly be bringing a translation feature to your existing AirPods, coming soon.

Apple is reportedly bringing a live translation feature to AirPods, allowing users to engage in real-time multilingual conversations. Expected to roll out with iOS 19 in the fall of 2025, this update could make cross-language communication more seamless than ever for AirPods users.

A long-awaited innovation

Live translation on AirPods may seem like it’s overdue, especially considering that competitors have offered similar features for years. Google introduced real-time translation with its first-generation Pixel Buds back in 2017, while Samsung provides a Live Translation feature with OneUI 6.1 or later. Now, Apple appears ready to release its own version.

How will it work?

Apple’s AirPods translation feature is expected to leverage the Translate app to facilitate real-time conversations. Imagine an English and Spanish talking- one person speaks in Spanish and the AirPods play an English translation directly into the other person’s ears. When the English speaker responds, the iPhone’s speakers will play the Spanish translation aloud, enabling a fluid back-and-forth exchange.

When will it launch?

According to reports, Apple plans to launch this feature alongside iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16 in fall 2025. While Apple has not officially confirmed these details, the idea of real-time translation is an exciting update for AirPods users.
