Spotify and Warner Music Group (WMG) have announced a new, multi-year partnership that will cover both recorded music and publishing.
The deal aims to strengthen Spotify and WMG’s commitment to driving innovation in streaming. Key aspects of the partnership include:
- Expanded music and video catalogs – The agreement will introduce a broader selection of music and video content made available to listeners on Spotify.
- New subscription tiers and content bundles – Spotify plans to introduce additional paid subscription models and exclusive content bundles.
- Enhanced artist-centric royalty models – The agreement is once again reinforcing Spotify and WMG’s alignment on artist-centric payment structures that reward creators.
- Direct licensing for Warner Chappell Music – The deal extends direct licensing arrangements with Warner Chappell Music into more countries, including the U.S., ensuring songwriters receive fair compensation.
Robert Kyncl, CEO of Warner Music Group, has emphasized the importance of this agreement in fostering greater collaboration between rights holders and streaming platforms.
“This major agreement delivers new benefits for artists, songwriters, and fans while unlocking further collaboration that expands the music ecosystem. It’s a big step forward in our vision for greater alignment between rights-holders and streaming services. Together with Spotify, we look forward to increasing the value of music, as we drive growth, impact, and innovation.”
Similarly, Daniel Ek, Spotify’s Founder and CEO, highlighted how this deal aligns with the company’s broader vision for 2025.
“For Spotify, 2025 is a year of accelerated execution, and our partners at Warner Music Group share our commitment to rapid innovation and sustained investment in our leading music offerings. Together, we’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for audiences worldwide—making paid music subscriptions more appealing while supporting artists and songwriters alike.”
This announcement follows Spotify’s recent renewal with Universal Music Group (UMG), which was part of its broader “Streaming 2.0” strategy. These deals aim to improve engagement, drive revenue, and solidify Spotify’s role as the leading platform for both artists and listeners.
As the industry continues to adapt to changes in digital music consumption, this partnership represents a step in shaping the future of streaming and ensuring fairer compensation for creators.
