Technics EAH-AZ100 earbuds – Are Magnetic Fluid Driver changing the game or all hype?
Technics just released their new flagship earbuds at CES 2025. But are the EAH-AZ100 worth the $300 price tag?
Technics, the Japanese audio brand owned by Panasonic, manufacture some of the highest end professional and consumer audio gear. Their latest earbuds unveiled at CES, the EAH-AZ100 are the company’s most expensive pair of true wireless earbuds yet.
The star of the show lies within the earbuds themselves. The EAH-AZ100 have proprietary Magnetic Fluid Drivers. This technology, miniaturized from Technics’ EAH-TZ700 wired in-ear monitors, is an oil-type liquid filled with magnetic particles, injected between the driver magnet and voice coil. There’s also an ultra-thin free edge, which enables ultra-low frequencies, as low as 3Hz. The Magnetic Fluid Drivers, ultra-thin free edge and 10mm driver size all hope to deliver balanced audio.
The EAH-AZ100 are the successor to the EAH-AZ80, but in a reduced size and weight package. They come with a new fifth tip sizes, ML. Included in the box are XS, S, ML and L, with M pre-installed. The earbuds themselves are IPX4 water resistant.
Call quality is promised to be improved, with Voice Focus AI and JustMyVoice technology, which uses an AI noise reduction chip and three MEMS microphones in each earbud to actively analyze incoming sound to focus on just the voice.
The earbuds support One-touch Conversation Mode, which allows the wearing to instantly pause music and activate transparent mode, meaning you can chat freely without having to remove the earbuds. Touch controls on the earbuds gives you access to music playback, calls and the voice assistant. There are built-in wearing sensors too, which means audio is automatically paused when the earbuds are removed from the ear and automatically play when re-entered. This action disables the touch sensors, which removes the risk of accidental taps.
The EAH-AZ100 support Bluetooth 5.3, the latest Bluetooth LE Audio standard and LC3 codec for low-latency while gaming. Google Fast Pair means quick pairing with compatible Android devices. There’s multipoint device support for connection of up to three devices and fast switching between them. Auracast allows you to pair and share audio with additional pairs of compatible headphones.
The earbuds feature Adaptive Noise Cancelling, as well as ambient and attention modes. There’s Dolby Atmos spatial audio with Head Tracking too, which locks audio in 360-degree space, for an immersive 3D listening experience. Noise cancelling modes, spatial audio customization, personalized sound tuning, touch controls, device preferences and location tracking can all be accessed in the Technics Audio Connect app.
The earbuds are good for 10 hours of playback with ANC enabled on a single charge. Include the case for a total of 28 hours. These numbers are increased to 12 hours and 29 hours respectively when ANC is turned off. The case supports charging via USB-C and Qi wireless charging. A 15 minute charge will provide 90 minutes of playback.
Technics EAH-AZ100 are available to order today in Silver or Black for $299.99 on Amazon.
