Music video network Vevo has released their annual end-of-year charts, with the global most viewed music videos and artists of the year.

Vevo manages music videos on YouTube for all three of the major record companies. 2024 was a big year for music, with major releases from the likes of Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Sabrina Carpenter and many more! Vevo are recapping their top premieres, most watched artists and most watched music videos of the year.

Columbian singer and songwriter KAROL G has held her top spot as Vevo’s ‘Global Top 10 Artists’ for the fourth consecutive year with 3.5 billion global views! The top ten saw re-entries from Ariana Grande, Maluma, Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga.

At number one on the ‘Global Top 10 Debuts’ list is Eminem. “Houdini” was the biggest music video premiere globally in 2024 based on views within the first two weeks. The nostalgia-packed music video earned 56.2 million global views in 14 days, and 11.6 million views in a single day on release day. This was followed by “Not Lke Us” by Kendrick Lamar. Both were major viral moments of the year.

“POR EL CONTRARIO”, the Mexican hit from Becky G, Leonardo Aguilar & Ángela Aguilar topped the ‘Global Top 10 Videos’ list. This list is based on views over the past 12 months, specifically stats are drawn from 11/30/23 – 11/29/24. “POR EL CONTRARIO” dropped in December 2023 and has since picked up 312.7 million views. This is the first time a regional Mexican music video has taken number one on Vevo’s ‘Global Top 10 Videos’.

Artists are the biggest influencers in the world, and the visual nature of music videos deepen an artist’s connection with their fans in a unique way that goes beyond the music itself. A frequent and consistent video release strategy not only enhances an artist’s brand, but it also galvanizes their fanbase. Major pop culture moments are therefore reflected in music video viewership, and Vevo’s annual recap provides the music and wider media and entertainment industry with a barometer for what was trending this year.

This year’s rankings reflect the continuing globalization of music, and 2024 was a year of firsts for genres like Country, Hip-Hop and Regional Mexican on Vevo. Each of these genres have made a massive impact on pop culture and solidified their relevance in the cultural zeitgeist.
