YouTube expands their new “Hype” tool globally and announces new and upcoming features to help fans show appreciation and creators grow.

YouTube launched a limited beta test of “Hype” in September last year, before expanding earlier this year. Aimed at helping emerging creators break through, the feature allows fans to “Hype” up to three videos per week from creators under 500,000 subscribers. Now, “Hype” is available in more countries, including US, UK, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, and India.

Every time a video is hyped, it receives points. The fewer subscribers the creator has, the more points it earns. Videos with the most points will show in a country-specific ranked “Top 100” leaderboard. The “Hype” leaderboard is available via the “Explore” panel on the mobile app. You can filter the list by categories, such as “Gaming”, “Vlog”, “Sports”, etc. Here, you’ll also find “My Hyped”, which lets you keep track of how your hyped videos are doing.

YouTube “Hype” is now available in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom, and United States.

Alongside the global expansion, YouTube announced several new features, including a new “Hype” button under videos, a “Hyped” badge on popular videos across YouTube, and the ability to filter the Home feed with the new “Hyped” category. Additionally, you will now also receive a notification when a video you’ve hyped is close to the leaderboard, plus the most dedicated fans can earn a new “Hype Star” badge each month to share with others.

Creators can see how many hypes and hype points their videos have in the YouTube Studio mobile app. There’s also a new hype card and recap available in weekly data stories. YouTube says more features are on the way, such as the ability to share that you’ve just hyped a video.

“YouTube Hype” is designed for new videos from up-and-coming creators. The option to “Hype” a video is available on videos uploaded within the last 7 days from creators between 500 – 500,000 subscribers in the YouTube Partner Program. See full availability, eligibility and policies here.
