Improving the TV experience, YouTube expands podcasts’ reach with a new tab.

YouTube’s new podcast tab on TV apps

YouTube is doubling down on its podcast experience, reinforcing its position as the home for podcasts. With over one billion monthly podcast users, the platform is now rolling out a dedicated “Podcasts” tab on Android TV and Google TV apps. This feature makes it easier for users to discover and access podcasts on their TVs.

What’s new?

While the first appearance of the tab is unknown, the “Podcasts” sidebar is being more widely integrated into YouTube’s TV interface for Android TV. The tab appears between the “Movies & TV” section and “Subscriptions”, making it easier to quickly access podcasts without having to manually search for them.

Podcasts within the tab function similarly to regular YouTube videos, without additional podcast-specific features. However, this means that it does still support video chapters if the original upload includes it-  making it easier to navigate long-form content.

YouTube’s podcast and TV dominance

This feature signifies YouTube’s dominance in the podcasting space as the go-to destination for podcast discovery and consumption. The platform recently announced that it has over one billion monthly podcast users, with over 400 million podcast listening hours from living room devices alone.

With TVs surpassing mobile as the primary way people consume YouTube, there is no wonder why the platform is aiming to enhance the podcast experience on TV to complement its dominance across both podcasts and TV.

By adding a dedicated podcast tab to TV, YouTube is emphasizing its commitment to improving the podcast experience, making it easier for audiences to watch, listen, and discover podcasts on the platform.
