Instagram head Adam Mosseri has recently shared a couple of tips to improve your Instagram reach.

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri has recently dropped a couple of fresh tips that could give your posts a little extra push in the algorithm. While they’re nothing groundbreaking, they’re worth implementing. They could just squeeze an extra drop of visibility from your Instagram posts.

Use Edits and see a boost

Earlier this year, Instagram launched Edits which gives users an all-in-one app for creating and polishing videos from start to finish.

Mosseri recently announced that Instagram is giving content made with Edits a higher ranking in Instagram’s algorithm. The idea? Well it seems as though this move is intended to encourage more people to use Edits. This is because Instagram will boost your ranking to more people, including those that may be interested in using Edits themselves.

There are a couple of caveats though. This isn’t a forever deal, with the boost only being around for now. So, if you want to ride the wave, now’s the time. Instagram will also spot if you’re trying to game the system by running your content through Edits. You actually need to use Edits for your content properly, not just throw it in to quickly climb the ranking.

Recently, Edits added an ability to let you add audio files to your Edits directly from your iPhone. That means artists can easily drop in teasers of unreleased tracks as part of an initial rollout campaign, giving followers a taste of what’s coming. Combine that with RouteNote’s ability to get your music onto the Edits audio library for use by anyone, and you’ve got some serious promo potential.

Stop worrying about engaging with similar content

Mosseri also sought to address a rumour that you need to like and comment on content in your niche to get more reach.

According to Mosseri, that’s simply not how the algorithm works, “what you decide to consume is not going to affect who you reach with your content”. So don’t waste time liking every similar account you can find just for the sake of it. Instead, you should just engage with the content you actually like.

That said, there’s a small catch. As SocialMediaToday notes, interacting with similar accounts might still get you more eyes on your work- but only because those creators may notice you and check out your profile. However, that’s not the algorithm at play, it’s just good old-fashioned networking.
