Transparent’s new wireless speaker is a vision of Brutalist architecture
Fusing architectural design and developed sound, Transparent unveils new aluminium speaker that is anything but.
Transparent, as the name suggests, is known for its range of attractive see-through glass speakers and sound systems. The latest speaker breaks from tradition, taking inspiration from the brutal UK design of the 1950s and 60s. The 23-inch tall tower is adorned with artfully positioned tweeters at sharp angles, and is available for $4000.
The Brutalist Speaker‘s clean lines and geometric aesthetic evoke the mid-20th-century architectural movement that prioritised function over form while still delivering striking designs. This speaker isn’t just about looks; it’s built for serious sound performance. It features a pair of three-inch tweeters positioned at 90-degree angles and a six-inch subwoofer. Together, they produce immersive, room-filling audio that’s further enhanced when the speaker is placed in a corner, using the walls to reflect sound. You won’t find a built-in battery here, so a nearby power outlet is required. However, this does mean no weight added to the already hefty 26.5lbs.
Connectivity is another area where Transparent excels. The Brutalist speaker supports Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi, making it compatible with a range of streaming services, including Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and Apple AirPlay 2. For users who prefer wired connections, it features two 3.5mm audio inputs. While it integrates with Amazon Alexa, the speaker lacks a built-in microphone, which limits its smart assistant capabilities. The front of the speaker features three dials for adjusting the volume, bass, and treble – all stylistically in keeping with the Brutalist principals of simplicity and minimalism.
One of the most impressive aspects of this speaker is its sustainability. Transparent crafted it using 70% post-consumer recycled aluminium, a decision that required three years of development. According to Transparent’s creative director, Per Brickstad, sourcing sustainable materials was a major challenge, but it aligned with the company’s commitment to eco-conscious innovation.
For those who appreciate timeless design and high-quality audio, the Transparent Brutalist speaker offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of functional art. Whether you’re drawn to its architectural influences or its green credentials, this speaker sets a new standard for blending style, performance, and sustainability.
