TikTok launches new features for songwriters
TikTok Songwriter Features aim to boost credit, discovery, and careers for songwriters.
TikTok gives songwriters their moment with new features
TikTok is launching a new set of ‘TikTok Songwriter Features‘ in beta designed specifically for songwriters, giving music creators a bigger platform to showcase their work.
So, what are the new features? Songwriters can now sign up for an official Songwriter Account. This adds a ‘Songwriter’ label to their profile, helping users easily identify who’s behind the music.
In addition, a new ‘Songwriter Music Tab’ will live on their profiles, enabling songwriters to showcase the tracks they’ve written or co-written and gain visibility around them. This makes it easier for fans, artists, and those in the industry to explore a songwriter’s catalogue.
Built after songwriter feedback
TikTok says the updates were shaped by direct feedback from the songwriting community. The platform surveyed 871 songwriters and conducted 18 in-depth interviews to better understand their needs, before TikTok decided that it wanted to “improve discovery, monetisation opportunities” for songwriters.
The rollout aligns with a recent MIDiA Research report which revealed that building a social media following is of great importance to songwriters. Over 80% of songwriters now use social media to grow their careers, with 53% using TikTok specifically.
“We are passionately committed to supporting songwriters at TikTok, which is why we built these tools to celebrate and elevate songwriters… helping them to tell stories about their music, their craft, and their lives, and to raise their profile and build their audience on TikTok, as hundreds of thousands of artist creators already do.”

A growing TikTok toolkit for music creators
TikTok is renowned as a platform for music discovery. These new songwriter features are the latest acknowledgment of that, building upon recent initiatives geared toward artists and music professionals. Earlier this year, TikTok launched TikTok for Artists, which helps artists monitor insights surrounding their tracks. Other tools include its ‘Add to Music App’ feature that lets users save songs to their preferred streaming platforms.
Now, TikTok is empowering songwriters to gain greater visibility on the platform.
What now?
For now, TikTok’s Songwriter Features are rolling out in a “small-scale, closed beta” to a limited number of publishing partners and songwriters. However, you can sign up to a waitlist to get your hands on the features next.
