Spotify opens second Los Angeles podcast studio
With a new LA studio dedicated to video podcasts, Spotify is signalling where it sees future growth.
Spotify has expanded its physical footprint in Los Angeles with the opening of a new podcast production facility, its second studio location in the city, as the streaming giant intensifies its focus on podcasting, especially video-focused shows.
Located in Hollywood’s Sycamore media district, Spotify Sycamore Studios is designed primarily for video podcast production, reflecting how the format has evolved beyond audio. The invitation-only facility includes multiple flexible recording spaces, professional video equipment and on-site production support aimed at helping creators produce higher-quality, visually engaging content.
The new studio complements Spotify’s existing Los Angeles campus in the Arts District, which continues to focus on audio content and traditional podcast production. According to Spotify executives, the decision to add a Hollywood location responds to growing demand from creators and audiences for video podcasting capabilities.
The Sycamore Studios space will host a range of shows from The Ringer, the sports and culture network Spotify acquired in 2020. Confirmed series include The Rewatchables, The Ringer-Verse and The Hottest Take, among others. Outside Ringer productions, access to the facility will be based on invitations extended to eligible video creators participating in Spotify’s expanded Partner Program.
Spotify’s investment in physical production space comes amid broader efforts to make the platform more creator-friendly. In recent months, the company has lowered eligibility thresholds for its Partner Program, making it easier for podcast creators to monetise their work, especially video content, and has introduced new tools to help manage sponsorships and distribution.
The expansion also aligns with industry moves toward visual storytelling in podcasting. Video podcast consumption on Spotify has roughly doubled year-over-year, signalling strong audience interest in this format and reinforcing Spotify’s strategic emphasis on supporting video creators.
Spotify already operates podcast studios in key markets, including New York, Stockholm and London, in addition to its two Los Angeles locations. With this new facility, the company appears poised to further influence production trends.
The launch of the Sycamore Studios comes shortly after the Golden Globes recognised podcasts in a new category for the first time, highlighting the medium’s growing cultural relevance and Spotify’s timing in scaling up its infrastructure to support creators
