Anime music has proved incredibly popular on Spotify over the last few years. Now, Spotify and Crunchyroll are doing something about it.

Anime has grown its fanbase over the decades, experiencing a significant surge in popularity in the last three or so years. It’s not just the movies and films that fans adore; anime music is being positively lapped up as well. Not letting this pass them by, Spotify has teamed up with anime giants, Crunchyroll to cater to anime-loving music streamers.

To give you an idea of just how popular anime music now is, global streams of the genre grew by 395% since 2021. Users have created 6.7million playlists featuring their favorite music and soundtracks from anime series and movies. That’s a lot of people eager to get lost in their most-loved anime fantasies and worlds.

Spotify and global anime brand, Crunchyroll are working together to bring those listeners an anime music experience like no other.

Spotify’s Anime hub

Within Spotify’s Anime hub, users will find brand-new curated playlists by Crunchyroll. These playlists have been based on classic character archetypes within Anime, allowing for more defined themes and moods to be curated to. These include:

  • Crunchyroll Anime Essentials: A brand-new anime season has arrived on Crunchyroll this summer! Listen along to the music behind the lineup.
  • The Broody Black-Haired MC: Anguished with a tragic past, this character’s demeanor may intimidate some, but deep down they just need a hug.
  • The Bubbly Pink-Haired BFF: Always close at hand when a friend is in need, this character brings light, positivity, and an often underestimated strength.
  • The OP White-Haired Sensei: Underneath their cool, unbothered exterior, this character is an enigma to be unraveled.
  • The Journey Begins: You are the main character of your own story. The fate of the world depends on you … and of course there are side quests.

So, whether you’re having a moodier day, or if you’re really feeling your main character energy, there’s an anime music playlist for you.
