PRS for Music announced they will begin paying streaming royalties monthly in 2025, starting with a pilot in March.

Some news for independent musicians and songwriters!  PRS for Music has revealed plans to roll out monthly royalty payments from streaming services.

This shift, set to start with a pilot payment on March 14, 2025, will transition to regular monthly payments from August 2025. For independent and unsigned musicians, this means quicker access to royalties earned from platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.

If you’re an independent artist or songwriter relying on streaming income, this change could make managing your finances easier. Instead of waiting for quarterly payouts, you’ll have more regular cash flow to support your creative work.

The move follows a series of improvements at PRS for Music, including a reduction in the MTOL (Multi-Territory Online Licensing) admin rate in 2024, which is expected to deliver an additional £47m to members by 2030.

How It Works

The new monthly system is sait to have been made possible by advancements in PRS for Music’s Nexus programme and the development of the world’s first multi-territory licensing hub mentioned earlier.

The new payment schedule will run alongside PRS’s existing quarterly payments in April, July, October, and December. Members earning over £30 (UK) or £60 (overseas) will receive payments on the 15th of each month or the nearest date.

Members eligible for the new March payment will be contacted in February with further details.
