Olly Murs Gets UK Number 1 Single with Please Don’t Let Me Go
Olly Murs has been able to do what Joe McElderry couldnt do, and thats to enter the UK singles chart at number one with his debut single. McElderry, who beat Murs in last season’s X Factor final, famously missed out on a number one debut last December with his first single to Rage Against The Machine, although The Climb did appropriately climb to the top a week later.
oh for god’s sake its only #1 on itunes!!! plus there really isn’t much competition going on in the charts which is exactly y such a bland and weak debut single got to that position!!
I might have to agree. However, thought I should probably give the kid a plug. Its good to see that he has gone from nothing to top of the charts. However, Im against the X Factor and other similar shows.
This information is wrong. Olly is only number 1 on iTunes. This is not an official chart, and does not count as a number 1, therefore Olly has not done what Joe was unable to do, considering that Joe was number 1 in Ireland for 4 weeks and number 1 in the UK for 1 week, and sold over 700,000 copies of The Climb, achieving platinum and making it the 5th biggest selling song of 2009 despite only being out for 2 weeks.
Do the official charts actually mean anything these days? iTunes is the largest music retailer in the world. Im not too worried about what is getting played the most on the radio, more worried about what people are actually buying!
Well, the official charts mean more than the iTunes charts. The iTunes charts are only to do with diwnloaded copies of a song from iTunes alone. The official chart takes into account the downloaded copies from iTunes, Play.com, Amazon, HMV, and then all the physical copies, so yes the official chart means something these days.
