A survey has suggested that K-Pop is Gen Alpha’s second favourite genre in the US.

A recent survey has revealed that K-Pop is continuing to storm the charts of global popularity, particularly amongst young audiences in the United States. These results highlight how this local genre is progressing further into global phenomenon status.

The findings come from children’s social media app Zigazoo, which describes itself as “safe social media to kids” and has more than 12 million users. The company shared the results with MusicAlly, based on a survey of over 4,500 Gen Alpha users.

Pop music came out on top, as you might expect, with 31% of respondents naming it their favourite genre. However, 25% of the children surveyed chose K-Pop, putting the genre firmly in second place. MusicAlly reported that these genres were favoured above Christian and Country music (17%), and also hip-hop, which received 10% of the votes.

The strong showing for K-Pop in the survey reflects just how far the genre has travelled in recent years. Supergroups like BTS and Blackpink have already captured global attention, and a growing roster of South Korean acts are now stepping into the US spotlight. The timing of the survey may also have played a part, with Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters – an animated series featuring virtual idols – currently enjoying chart success in America.

K-Pop’s momentum in global music streaming has been well-documented. In fact, earlier this year we reported on just how much the genre has grown on Spotify, showing that its reach goes well beyond its home country. The new survey results further underline the fact that K-Pop is resonating deeply with a new generation of fans – many of whom are discovering their favourite artists through online platforms and global media.

With its mix of catchy hooks, polished visuals, and highly engaged fan communities, K-Pop shows no signs of slowing down. Whether boosted by streaming success or viral shows, its place in the hearts of young listeners appears firmly established.
